History:
Crowder Field is the home field of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith Lions, a NCAA D2 provisional team.
The field is located on the UAFS campus at the corner of Kinkead and N 56th St. It was built in 1994 and named after former head coach Bill Crowder. Prior to it’s opening, the Lions played at another on campus ballpark.
Overall, Crowder Field is quite unique. The ballparkfeatures three seperate, curving, backless, metal bleachers behind homeplate that seat approximately 250. Above the bleacher section is a terrace hill that can seat approximately another 250. Atop the terrace at street level is a press box. Dimensions to the corners are fairly standard, with 328 to left and 334 to right, but center is slighty deeper than usual, 411 feet from home plate.
Crowder Field may not be the best collegaite ballpark in the state, but is certainly not among the worst. The ballpark defintely deserves it’s status as a D2 facility.
